Breaking: Blaze Sign Tommy Palasek in Player Movement

September 12, 2017
Earlier today the Atlanta Blaze picked up Lizards attackman Tommy Palasek off player movement, and added him to the 2018 Blaze squad. Palasek has been a lifelong New York player, growing up in Rocky Point, graduating from Syracuse University (prior to a stint at Johns Hopkins), and suiting up for the Long Island Lizards and then New York Lizards since 2012. His long career in the MLL is something Palasek sees as a positive, saying, "I think, that my six years in the league is a sweet spot in a players career. Athletically i have off-season and in season workouts down. I've had experience with great teams in New York, playoff games, championships. Allows me to focus on what needs to be done in preparation to help make a championship push in ATL. "

Palasek has been a powerhouse for the Lizards since he started playing for them, putting up a total of 163 points, 22 of them being just in the past season. Owner Peter Trematerra commented on the addition of this talent, saying, "Tommy Palasek adds an exciting dimension with both a winning pedigree and great locker room presence. His offensive skills will enable us to score from the midfield as well as the attack; he is a great addition to an already potent offense. The Atlanta Blaze has taken a major step in the right direction with the addition of Tommy!"

His obvious talent is just part of the reasoning behind his addition to the squad. Of the acquisition, General Manager and Assistant Coach Spencer Ford said “With the signing of Tommy Palasek, The Atlanta Blaze took another step forward in preparation for 2018. Tommy provides many things needed in building a team, he can play Mid or Attack, he can score off the dodge or off the pass and he is hungry to win. As mentioned he has many qualities but the one that stands out from our conversations is that he is excited to be part of a team and do what it takes to help that team win!”

Building team chemistry and a winning locker room has been the goal the Blaze coaching staff have wanted to achieve, and Coach Huntley believes they have found this in signing Palasek: “Tommy is one of those guys that I have always wanted to coach and work with. He is the consummate professional, versatile, productive and a proven winner. Most of all he is a WE guy that will be a great fit in our room.” Palasek agrees that he will mesh well with the current Blaze squad. "The blaze has a young talented core of guys that I think fits my brand of lacrosse very well. Fast pace, team oriented, creative in transition and a great vision from Coach Huntley and GM Spencer Ford."

Of his transition down south, Palasek said, "I'm really excited to join the ATL lacrosse community and represent an area that has shown tremendous growth at all levels of our sport. Giving back and participating in the coaching side of the sport had always meant a lot to me. I'm really looking forward to interacting with the fans and youth players as soon as I can. It's a really important part for our sport."

The Atlanta Blaze looks forward to welcoming Palasek into the firepit in 2018. Don’t miss out, put down your season ticket deposit here!
