Breaking: Blaze Acquire Matt Gibson

September 29, 2017
Kennesaw - Today the Blaze finalized a trade with the New York Lizards, wherein the teams traded the Atlanta Blaze's third round collegiate draft pick (once belonging to the Lizards) for the Lizards' Matt Gibson. Gibson has been a staple of the Lizards' offense, going into playoffs with them for four years. Dave Huntley, Head Coach of the Blaze said, "Gibson's experience in the league gives him a team mindset that will contribute nicely to our locker room, and his skill will give us a huge boost in the coming season."

Gibson, who signed for 2018 and 2019 seasons, is a graduate of Yale University and played for the Lizards and the Denver Outlaws in his professional career. He recorded 33 points this past season, and knows a championship mindset, having won one with the Lizards in 2015. Of the Blaze acquiring his talent, General Manager Spencer Ford said, "Matt has scored many highlight reel goals during his career, he always finds the back of the net. He already has great chemistry with Tommy Palasek and should complement Kevin Rice nicely. He loves the game and continues to grow as a player, we look forward to 2018 with Matt on our side!"

Owner Peter Trematerra echoed these sentiments, saying, " I am excited for Matt, he deserves the shot at 14 games as an MLL player. He is a fantastic finisher who will upgrade our overall offense. As a left-handed threat with an uncanny ability to finish, we are thrilled to get started. This will be the first time in Blaze history that we sprint into training camp with a pretty full roster."

"“I’m excited about the opportunity to play in Atlanta." said Gibson, "I really like the coaching staff, their personalities, and their approach to the game. I have a few friends on the team already, so I’m psyched to join them, as well as get to know the rest of the squad. They’ve got a ton of talent already, so hopefully I can become a piece of that puzzle. Beyond that, I’m thrilled to experience Atlanta. I’ve always loved the city!"
